Another Community Sevice Opportunity for the Summer

Many people do not realize that low income and persons on welfare have limited access to personal hygiene products. One cannot, for example, use their Vision Card (“food stamps”) for the purchase of soap, shampoo, diapers, and feminine hygiene needs. Sometimes these are available at food banks but not on a regular basis. A few hygiene products can help people maintain their dignity and sense of self-esteem. This makes it possible for them to seek and maintain jobs or attend school. University Congregational Church, in collaboration with Open Door, Inter-Faith Ministries, and Breakthrough Club, has started a hygiene pantry in the downtown area that will provide hygiene products to those in need. The pantry will be open from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. The pantry will only succeed if schools and organizations are willing to assist by collecting product on our behalf. Would you consider running a product drive at your school or organization? Enclosed is a list of product we will be providing. Just collecting a few items from the list can make a big difference. If you are willing to help us, please contact me by phone or e-mail.
